The Energy Journey of Eindhoven
On Oct. 9, 2025, the Municipality of Eindhoven presented a unique experience at the Warmtecongres: The Energy Viewing Trip of Eindhoven. An Augmented Reality (AR) experience that makes the invisible visible. Energy processes that normally take place under our feet or behind closed doors now become tangible, understandable and discussable.
What did you see at the heat conference?
Physical objects: a poster, an open box and two cubes with QR codes. Scan them and step into the AR world.
Conversation starters: facts, questions and surprising insights pique your curiosity.
Idea box: in the box are cubes on which you can write your ideas. What do you see as the future of heat?
Collective heat solutions
Focus on Eindhoven Northeast.
Follow the journey of energy: from the Sewage Treatment Plant to the Neighborhood Heat Plant.
Find out how waste heat is upgraded and used to heat homes.
Get an understanding of the subsurface: what does it look like, and what does it mean for space use?
Individual heat solutions
Explore the operation of an air-source heat pump.
See how this solution fits into the foundation of your home or street.
Understand the impact and possibilities of individual choices.
Why this installation?
Heat is a crucial part of the energy transition – but often invisible. With the Energiekijkreis, we make complex processes understandable and visual. This creates space for conversation, ideas and involvement.
“The heat and energy transition in Eindhoven is largely taking place underground, and that makes it difficult to show. For the heat conference, we still wanted to give visitors a glimpse of our future plans, and especially to invite them to think about the “open ends”. Thanks to this project, we can take others into a technical story in an interactive way. And that gives energy! ”
