XR for Impact: Sustainable behavior change through experience
This blog was written by Leon Schipper, founder of the educational XR platform Aryzon.World. We asked him to write a guest blog about his experiences with what XR can do for education, sustainability and inclusivity. The result became an insightful, personal blog:
Making sustainability tangible
Sustainability is more urgent than ever. Yet it is proving difficult to really get people moving. We have all the figures, reports and policy recommendations – but much remains abstract and far from everyday life. So the question is: how do we make sustainability tangible?
At EVRgreen Studio and at Aryzon.World, we believe that you only change what you really experience. That’s why we deploy XR (Extended Reality) as a bridge between information and experience – between thinking and doing. And it is precisely at that intersection that we find connection with EVRgreen Studio, which works on sustainable behavioral change and system change projects through creative technology. Together, we deploy XR and visual storytelling as an activating force for social impact.
♻️ How waste separation became an XR experience
A concrete example: in 30 minutes I developed a simple VR experience about waste separation in our 3D no-code platform Aryzon.World. No dry explanations, but a playful mini-game in which you had to virtually sort waste the right way. By making choices and seeing the consequences immediately, users learn through play – and the message sticks. There is now plenty of scientific evidence for this.
A little later, EVRgreen Studio built on this mini-game to get people to separate waste in XR at a trade show. If you put waste in the right bin, a rerecycled object immediately jumped out from that material, to give you an idea of how your waste is actually valuable to make new stuff with.
What started as an educational enhancement grew into a tool to quickly build and validate an idea yourself without programming, quite nice with my lack of it!
🌄 XR as a catalyst for system change
What if we applied this approach more broadly? Imagine an XR experience in which you walk through a city of the future – built on circular principles. Or a virtual simulation of the impact of CO₂ emissions on ecosystems worldwide. XR makes the invisible visible, the complex understandable and the impersonal tangible. It’s not for nothing that I love EVRgreen’s mission: to drive systemic change through visual and experiential communication.
🧠 XR and education: learning beyond the standard
We also see tremendous opportunities in education. XR experiences can actively engage young people in topics such as climate, biodiversity or social equality. More importantly, XR not only helps average learners – it is also a powerful tool for those with neurodivergent information processing.
At Aryzon.World, we believe it is essential for technology to be Inclusive. Many young people with ADHD, autism or giftedness, for example, learn better through visual, interactive experiences than through linear text or classroom learning materials. XR offers them the space to reach insights in their own way – by doing, seeing and feeling.
The difference between neurotypical and neurodivergent brains and the different way of thinking, doing, feeling and learning is still a challenge due to ignorance…. Soon neurodivergence is labeled as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, etc., when it is a different way of processing information in the brain.
“If you continue to judge a super fast fish by its ability to climb a tree, that fish will always be judged poorly, despite its superior swimming talent.”
This mission – to make technology accessible and meaningful for everyone – runs as a thread through our work. Because a truly sustainable future only exists when everyone can participate.
👐 Mission-driven technology: where Aryzon.World and EVRgreen Studio strengthen each other
We build XR applications that change education and behavior. EVRgreen Studio creates visual concepts that make systems thinking tangible. Together we combine technology, design and storytelling to make the great transitions of our time understandable, tangible and personal.
We do this not only for policy makers or innovators – but also for students, citizens, and people with a different perspective on the world. Because if you want to encourage sustainable behavior, you have to touch people – right at the point where experience meets meaning!
